The winning team from Stellenbosch University in the IT challenge heats did very well to place second in the national finals. The team got off to a good start, setting the pace for the entire competition, but Wits snatched victory from them after scoring a bonus point in an interactive showdown between the various teams’ implementations of a computer opponent for a version of Whist. The team members had to do all the programming on one single computer, thus planning, team work and coordination between them were of the utmost importance. This is where the four male members, who came second in last year’s competition as well, found their previous experience invaluable.
Herman Schaaf, Dirk-B Coetzee, Ralf Kistner, Melissa Munnik and Conrad Hofmeyr were each rewarded with a 24 inch LCD monitor for their effort. Congratulations to all of them.
