Stellenbosch University’s heat-winning IT Challenge team continued their success at the IT Challenge finals in Joburg, taking first place in a tight contest. The win bagged each team member a new Dell laptop, and a R150000 prize for Stellenbosch University.
The Standard Bank IT Challenge, which aims to test problem-solving skills, consists of questions set by a panel of British Computer Society experts, who also judge the results. This was the first time a Stellenbosch team has won the competition — a well-deserved reward for this team, the core of which took second place the previous two years. The winning team consisted of three third-year students of Electrical and Electronic Engineering with Computer Science (Herman Schaaf, Ralf Kistner, and Dirk-B Coetzee) and a second-year Process Engineering student, Melissa Munnik.
